DAY 01:
MAKASSAR AIRPORT – TANA TORAJA (_, L, D)
Arrive at Makassar Airport, where you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to Tana Toraja. On the way you’ll pass through quiet Bugis fishing and farming villages and see rice fields and traditional sailing boats. Enjoy tasty local fare over lunch at the port of Parepare, then head off for Tana Toraja, arriving later that afternoon. After your hotel check-in, relax over dinner and stay overnight.
DAY 02:
TANA TORAJA EXPEDITION (B, L, D)
This full-day expedition visits the ancient graves at Lemo and Londa where animistic ritual funerals are held. You’ll visit traditional houses at local villages, enjoy lunch en route, and stop in at local markets where the mountain people sell their produce. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner at local restaurant. Stay overnight at the hotel.
DAY 03:
HOME STAY IN TORAJA (B, L, D)
After breakfast at hotel, visit Batutumonga to see the most beautiful rice terraces in Indonesia. Lunch is at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to Sa’dan village. Meet with your host family who will take you for a walk and introduce their village to you. Dinner is at Sa’dan village, and you’ll stay in a Tongkonan traditional house.
DAY 04:
HOME STAY IN TORAJA (B, L, D)
During your home stay, you can choose to:
- Learn how to weave world famous ikat textiles.
- Learn local dancing from Sa’dan dancers
- Visit rice terraces and see or experience planting or harvesting rice
- Learn how palm wine is tapped from the trees
- Cook traditional bamboo cuisine, papiyon with your host family
Dinner is local cuisine papiyon and you can also enjoy fresh palm wine. Stay over at Tongkonan house.
DAY 05:
TANA TORAJA EXPEDITION (B, L, D)
After breakfast, say goodbye to your host family, and set off for a full-day Toraja expedition. Visit the graves of the kings of Sangalla’ at Suaya village, the Tampang Allo cave graves, and Kambira village to view babies’ graves located in trees and enjoy the sounds of the local bamboo orchestra. Lunch is at a local restaurant, followed by a visit to Bori megalithic stones and stone graves. Then it’s on to Pallawa village to see traditional Torajan houses. Dinner and stay overnight at hotel.
DAY 06:
TANA TORAJA - MAKASSAR AIRPORT (B, L, _)
Check out of the hotel after breakfast. Visit Lakawang hill for refreshments and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Parepare. Check in at the airport for your next flight in the afternoon.
